Why Open - seems cliche - but why reinvent the wheel? To me openness is about spread of a good idea or concept and the trust that the next person will take it and make it even better.

This sounds like a good way to think about it to me! Of course, it could be the case that no one will use it, revise it, make it better…it just depends on them finding it and having the inspiration and the means. I still think putting it out there is worthwhile just in case.

Most of the discussion of our views on openness is taking place on a separate thread, in case you want to see more! http://discourse.p2pu.org/category/why-open

The concept of openness seem to be of benefit to the community due to the fact that, it is through “Open” that we learn, taught in schools. Knowledge is imparted to the new generations by being “open”

African continent has lag behind in development and in knowledge transfer due to sticking to “closeness laws” of “copyright and intellectual property right”

If today we go “open” for knowledge transfer, then our people will change the world to be a better place to live

I agree with your ideas

Because of equal opportunity to all. Make ideas better, openness is not only about talking about ideas and open source its about how we contribute and what is our role in that ideas. t

I like this point about openness being also about how we contribute to the improvement of ideas, not just about making things available to others to work on, improve, etc. I suppose if we just put stuff out there in the open and don’t do anything with what others have put out there, we are not contributing to some of the benefits openness can bring.
