Hi change-makers,

It’s activation time. We’re dropping you a note about the following items:

  • Activity 1 due Monday, Sept 1.
  • Who to talk to in W4C.
  • How to pace yourself in this course.
  • Sharing resources.

It’s been really amazing to see your introductions. If you haven’t yet, pop on over to say hello and find your crew: http://discourse.p2pu.org/t/writing-for-change-say-hello-and-find-your-crew/156

Activity 1: Your Creation Myth.

Many of you are working on your first project, which is a deeper explanation of who you are what you are interested in. Go ahead and post your essay by Monday, September 1st. For directions, head over to: http://discourse.p2pu.org/t/activity-1-your-creation-myth/169

Pick Out a Buddy.

As a next step, say hello to someone who don’t know yet. Familiarize yourself with their biography--Are their interests similar to yours? Do they live far away from you?--and follow their posts.

You Are Not Behind.

Adam, Dirk and I will send prompts on Mondays to help remind you to go to the next week. However, it’s way more important to find out who is in the room and connect to each other than to put together the writing assignment quickly. Take your time, you are among friends and say hello first.

Sharing Blog Posts and Ideas.

We know that a few of you were observing in Ferguson, Missouri this weekend. Others of you are watching the unfolding of events at the University of Illinois. Be sure to post one link that you find about the issues that you are thinking about, and say a bit about how the piece frames the issue.

In the "Writing for Change" category on Discourse, go ahead and share a resource by clicking "Create a New Topic" like so:

You can share a link to the blog post or article there. We'll also call that creating a new "thread" in the future.

So your next steps are:

  1. Say hello on Discourse if you haven’t: Writing for Change: Say Hello And Find Your Crew
  2. Fiind a buddy in the introductions and reply to their introduction: Writing for Change: Say Hello And Find Your Crew
  3. Post your essay (as a googledoc) by Monday, September 1st: Activity 1: Your Creation Myth
  4. Share a blog post or a writer who thinks about the issues of social change you think about on discourse: http://discourse.p2pu.org/category/writing-for-change

Be well, change-makers.

Adam, Dirk and Vanessa

Hi People, I’ve had very good intentions to join you on this course from start, but I had a head over heel month with resigning after being in a profession for 37 years. Looooonnnng story, but now important to hear: Am I too late to join at this stage or should I rather wait for the next course. I’m in the northern part of South Africa and the hope is to improve my ‘writing skills’ (for change when called for). So 2nd question, am I at the right place for the purpose. I’d appreciate some feedback. Thanks, Jakes

@Jakes you are more than welcome to hop on in. You can even join us at 7pm if you’d like a primer on Googledocs + Discourse: https://unhangout.media.mit.edu/h/writing4change
